Katrina Healthcare Job Fair Makes an Impact

JACKSON (September 30, 2005) -  On Wednesday, September 28th at the Jackson Medical Mall, the Katrina Healthcare Job Fair proved to benefit over 400 job seekers from the state of Mississippi. The Katrina Healthcare Job Fair was sponsored by the Mississippi Hospital Association Health Careers Center in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security’s Governor’s Job Fair Network and WLBT News.

Forty employers, including hospitals, healthcare agencies and educational institutions, participated in the Job Fair. They offered job opportunities ranging from Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Dietary, Computer Technology, Research, Housekeeping, Clerical, Physical/Occupational Therapy and more. Throughout the day, approximately 330 resumes were submitted, 72 on-site interviews were conducted, 45 jobs were offered, and approximately 220 hires from this job fair are projected for the upcoming year.

We give special thanks to our partners and the Clarion Ledger, WLBT, WKXI-107.5 and 1180 Talk Show 97.3 for the excellent coverage that the Katrina Healthcare Job Fair received. The publicity from these organizations contributed to the success of the event.

About MHA Health Career Center:

The MHA Health Careers Center was created by the Mississippi Hospital Association in response to the shortages in nursing and allied health careers. These shortages are threatening the delivery of timely and quality healthcare in Mississippi and must be addressed. The Center provides resources for individuals interested in health careers and to hospitals for employee recruitment and retention.

The MHA Health Careers Center is focused on being the primary resource for students, educators, job seekers and healthcare employers interested in health care information and occupations in Mississippi. By forming partnerships with educational institutions, healthcare employers and healthcare professional organizations, we are working to ensure that the medical needs of all Mississippians are cared for by a sufficient number of well-trained professionals.
