2005 Mississippi Men in Nursing
Calendar
PRESS RELEASE
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JACKSON (November 9, 2004) --
The MHA Health
Careers Center showcases 12 new stars for the 2005 Mississippi Men in
Nursing Calendar. The goal was to produce a 2005 calendar featuring
Mississippi male nurses in a diversified manner. While the number of men
in nursing is gradually climbing, they represent only 5.4 percent of the
2.7 million nurses in the United States. We created the calendar to
recognize this important segment of the profession. These men are
admirable, skillful, and caring individuals who deserve acknowledgement
for the huge impacts they have made in our lives. For years, men have not
considered the contributions they can provide to nursing. However, this
trend is being reversed.
The calendar is used as a recruiting tool to help encourage
men, young and old, consider the vast opportunities in nursing. It is
distributed to schools as part of a health careers recruitment information
kit. The calendar will also be available for purchase through the Health
Careers Center Web site at
www.mshealthcareers.com.
Any profits from this calendar are used to fund health career scholarships
throughout the state of Mississippi. We can only hope that by showcasing
just a handful of Mississippi's very own men in nursing that others will
see the rewarding opportunities there are in pursuing a career in health
care.

About MHA
Health Career Center:
The MHA Health Careers Center was created by the Mississippi Hospital
Association in response to the shortages in nursing and allied health
careers. These shortages are threatening the delivery of timely and
quality healthcare in Mississippi and must be addressed. The Center
provides resources for individuals interested in health careers and to
hospitals for employee recruitment and retention.
The MHA Health Careers Center is focused on being the primary resource for
students, educators, job seekers and healthcare employers interested in
health care information and occupations in Mississippi. By forming
partnerships with educational institutions, healthcare employers and
healthcare professional organizations, we are working to ensure that the
medical needs of all Mississippians are cared for by a sufficient number
of well-trained professionals.
